Overview
This guide explains condition categories commonly used in TCG markets (e.g. Mint, Near Mint, Excellent). Use it as a reference when listing or buying singles.
Grading Scale
- Mint (M): Perfect, factory condition; untouched.
- Near Mint (NM): Almost perfect; tiny imperceptible flaws.
- Excellent (EX): Minor wear visible under close inspection.
- Very Good (VG): Noticeable wear but no major defects.
- Good (G): Clear wear: surface scuffs, edge whitening.
- Played / Lightly Played (LP): Heavy play; visible damage.
- Poor (P): Significant damage; not suitable for grading.
Visual Checklist
Corners & Edges
Check for whitening, dings, or bends on corners and edges.
Surface
Look for scratches, print defects, or stains on the face and back.
Centering
Uneven borders can affect grade — note left/right/top/bottom centering.
Authenticity
Verify holo patterns, set symbols, and known print variations.
